How to cancel Spotify Premium
TL;DR
- • Cancel at spotify.com/account — the mobile app has no cancel button.
- • Playlists, library, and followers all stay. You just drop back to free + ads.
- • Billed via Apple or Google? Cancel on that platform instead.
- • Premium runs until end of billing period — no prorated refund.
Step 1 — Open spotify.com/account in a browser
Sign in with the email Spotify sends receipts to. The cancel option only appears on web — the mobile app hides it on purpose.
Step 2 — Click 'Available plans' or 'Change plan'
Scroll to the bottom of your current plan card and click Cancel Premium. Spotify offers a 3-month discount — decline unless you actually want it.
Step 3 — Confirm
Click Yes, Cancel. You'll keep Premium until your next billing date, then drop to the free tier automatically. Library and playlists stay intact.
If you're on Family or Duo
Only the plan owner can cancel. Other members get an email when the plan ends. They can sign up for their own Free or Premium account without losing anything.
Frequently asked
Can I pause Spotify Premium instead of cancelling?
No native pause exists. Closest equivalent is downgrading to free, then re-subscribing later — everything carries over.
What happens to downloaded songs?
Offline downloads stop working immediately when you drop to free. The files are still in the app, but locked.
Does cancelling affect my Spotify Wrapped?
No. Wrapped counts your listening from a free or premium account.
