How to cancel Netflix
TL;DR
- • Takes under 2 minutes from any browser.
- • You keep watching until the billing period ends.
- • No refunds — Netflix never prorates.
- • Billed via Apple/Google? Cancel on the platform, not netflix.com.
Step 1 — Sign in at netflix.com/youraccount
Use the email Netflix sends receipts to. If multiple people share the account, whoever's payment method is on file owns the cancel button.
Step 2 — Click Cancel Membership
Under Membership & Billing. Netflix asks you to confirm twice and offers a downgrade to the cheapest ad-supported tier — ignore unless you actually want it.
Step 3 — Note the end date
Netflix shows the exact date your access ends. You can keep watching until then. Profiles and viewing history are kept for 10 months in case you come back.
Step 4 — If you're billed elsewhere
Netflix can't cancel a third-party billed account. Check Settings → Subscriptions on iPhone, the Play Store on Android, or your phone bill. If you see a charge from Comcast, T-Mobile or Verizon, call them — Netflix won't help.
The price-hike trick
When Netflix emails about an upcoming price increase, cancel before the new rate hits, then re-subscribe on the cheaper ad-supported plan. The same content library, $15+/mo less. Atlas members do this automatically.
FAQ
Does Netflix charge a cancellation fee?
No. Netflix has never charged a cancellation fee on any plan.
Can I pause Netflix instead?
No native pause exists. The closest option is to downgrade to the ad-supported plan ($7.99/mo) until you're ready to fully cancel.
What happens to my profiles?
Profiles and viewing history are held for 10 months. Re-subscribe within that window and everything comes back.
