How to cancel Amazon Prime
TL;DR
- • Total time: under 3 minutes.
- • Annual plan? Choose 'End Now and Refund' for a prorated refund.
- • Refund disappears the moment you use any Prime benefit that period.
- • Cancel via amazon.com — not the app — to see the refund option.
Step 1 — Go to amazon.com/mc
That's the direct URL for Manage Prime Membership. Skip the menus; the app hides this page two levels deep on purpose.
Step 2 — Click End Membership and click through retention
Amazon shows three full-screen offers: a free 30-day pause, a downgrade to Prime Lite, and a discount. Click Continue to Cancel on each. The button is always the smaller, greyer one.
Step 3 — Choose 'End Now and Refund' (the hidden one)
Amazon defaults the radio button to End on [renewal date]. Switch it to End Now. If you haven't used Prime benefits this cycle, a refund amount appears — usually $80–$130 on an annual plan cancelled mid-year.
Step 4 — Confirm and verify
Confirm cancellation. Amazon emails within 5 minutes. Refund hits your card in 3–5 business days. If the refund doesn't appear, reply to that email — Amazon support honours it because the offer is logged on their side.
What if you've already used Prime this period?
The refund button disappears. You can still cancel, you just won't get money back. Your Prime benefits keep running until the renewal date, then turn off automatically.
Cancelling Prime Video only (not full Prime)
Prime Video is a separate $8.99/mo subscription if you don't have full Prime. Cancel at amazon.com/gp/video/settings → Cancel Channel.
